iMinds The Conference is a showcase of innovative digital technologies, exciting research, and promising start-ups held annually in Brussel’s modern SQUARE meeting center. For the 2013 edition, Atra Media transformed a giant 8m x 3m rear-projection screen into an interactive canvas that invited guests to play with the theme of ideas.

The client’s design team created a series of colorful screens around the concept of the light bulb as a symbol for ideas and innovation. The hot wires of the bulbs were formed in the shape of iMinds’ market segment icons: health, energy, media, manufacturing, smart cities, and ICT. In the first application, the bulbs lit up as visitors passed in front of the screen, and the tagline read: “What if… you could take a brilliant idea home with you today?”, with “What if…” being the central theme of the conference.

The second screen featured our Attract app with magnets and the tagline, “What if iMinds can make your ideas stick?”. The more you moved your hands, the more light bulbs you attracted. Finally, a third screen invited visitors to “catch brilliant ideas” in the shape of bulbs falling from tree branches like leaves, which could then be scooped up from the ground.

Both Barco’s and NEC’s booth at ISE 2015 featured impressive 3×3 video walls that we were very excited to have as canvases for a variety of interactive applications. From motion-activated effects, to augmented reality, to gamification features – it was all there for visitors to play with and let their imagination be sparked.

Over at Barco – where this year’s “Connecting Worlds” theme focused heavily on space – we worked with hi-res images from the Hubble telescope to create a truly out of this world interactive experience taking advantage of the wall’s native resolution.

NEC’s “Discover Bright Places” theme took visitors on a trip to beautiful destinations around the world by literally immersing them into the landscapes. Meanwhile, the “Goalkeeper Challenge” game offered players a chance to win a FIFA World Cup soccer ball, while demonstrating the appeal of gaming features for digital signage in the retail space.

In total, more than 3,000 visitors engaged for at least 30 seconds with the various interactive applications on both booths.

For Europe’s largest professional AV show, Atra Media partnered with eyevis to showcase the creative interactive possibilities of their Ultra-HD flat-panel LCD line.

Starting from a blank 85-inch screen, we developed a creative concept featuring two layers of interaction and fully custom 4k content.

As visitors made their way past the booth, their movements “wiped” the black panel behind the rotating car to reveal a time-lapse video. The surprise effect stopped many people in their tracks and drew them closer to the screen, where they could continue to interact with the car through touch. Contact with the screen activated a 3D menu from which an image gallery could be accessed, along with the most noteworthy feature: a 4K animation at 60 FPS for the smoothest playback imaginable.

The combination of motion-activated and touch interaction is particularly effective for the Presentation & Information market, where an attractive and engaging delivery is key.

With its stunning modern interior featuring life-size statues, a futuristic water fountain, and elegant lighting design in soft hues, The Cumberland is a boldly innovative property in the Guoman Hotels collection. Atra Media partnered with multitouch hardware providers Promultis on a two-month interactive video wall installation for the London-based hotel, featuring a bespoke gesture and touch application.

To integrate the video wall as seamlessly as possible into the existing aesthetic of the lobby, we selected 13 images of London sites chosen for their urban minimalist or futuristic visual quality. Lesser known attractions and symbols were favored over more traditional ones.

At the first level of interaction, the screens reacted to the user’s position and movements through camera tracking, and changed the image using a polygonal pattern. A touch interface activated upon contact with the wall offered fun facts about the images, which could be scrolled using the interactive Tube map.

The goal was to present famous London attractions and sites through a different lens, and introduce guests to little known facts about these and other niche attractions in the city.

For the 2014 World Perfumery Congress in Dauville, France, Swiss fragrance manufacturer Givaudan opted for a largely interactive booth, featuring both touch video walls and tables. Atra Media were hired as software specialists to consult on the client’s desired UI and deliver bespoke programming for a 3×3 video wall.

The concept kicked off with images of Givaudan’s Naturals ingredients – Lavender, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Vanilla, etc. – running in a loop. When activated by the presence of a user, a liquid dissolve effect provided a gorgeous transition to the following screen, which indicated the place of origin of the ingredient on a globe marked by a pulsating Givaudan icon.

From there, visitors could explore videos and discover facts about each Natural by swiping away the screens and navigating through a series of color and image swatches.

Tenpin is the leading operator of bowling and family entertainment centres, with some 30 locations in the UK. Together with our hardware partner Promultis, we were asked to develop a concept for multitouch tables, to entertain customers in the bar area and encourage them to spend more time wining and dining at the location.

Tenpin’s colorful and playful brand lent itself perfectly for this application. Using existing marketing materials provided by the client, we developed an original concept featuring an interactive food and drinks menu, photo gallery, promotions, and games page – all of which could later be updated by staff via a content manager. A dynamic bowling pin animation was created to act as an interactive home menu holding the elements together.

We are continuing to fine-tune the concept and plan to integrate more multi-user game options before the project’s deployment.

As an official partner of the European Ryder Cup, BMW made an impression with a presence focused heavily on social engagement and interaction.

Visitors were invited to have their picture taken with the color of their chosen team, which they could then tweet with the #DriveYourTeam. The photos were also updated in real-time on a 4×3 video wall next to the photo booth, where they formed a huge mosaic.

Atra Media programmed the bespoke functionality that allowed photos from the booth to be displayed onto the video wall and generate the mosaic, with a Twitter feed running along the top of the wall.
